*Will be updating page soon*
My goal is to honor God where He has me here and now. I am a married, homeschool graduate. I have a burden for the lost and hurting. Sometimes I question whether I am the right person for the job. I wonder how God could use me in a bigger way, how He could change more souls through me.
Truly, I want to love all people, and I want them to know that I care. I care about the sick and hurting, the shamed and weary. I want to help in any way I can.
My goal as a Christian young woman is to show hospitality, love, and genuine care. I want to be a prayer warrior for this world. I strive to deepen my understanding of the power of prayer by seeking the Holy Spirit and the very heart of Christ.
Sometimes it is hard to define what all this means and how it looks when it is carried/played out. I know that if I am in God's word every day, He will show me parts of His heart.
I pray that God would give me His eyes so I can see. I pray that He would break my heart for what breaks His.
I also want to mention LIFE allot in my posts...every person no matter how poor or miserable they are or seem is worth everything to God and to me.
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog, it means so much.
Blessings,
~ Rachel
It is good to see someone who wants to make a difference in the lives of others and is willing to actually do something about it! :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I could do even more! :)
ReplyDeleteDear Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI looked at your profile for the first time, and I saw some things that I thought that I'd share with you. Narnia, lord of the rings, and The Passion are not Bibical based and are full of witchcraft and wickedness. We have studied them, and The Passion is full of idolitry and worse. The actor is 'pretending' to be Jesus, which is wrong and against God, and he is not a believer at all.
Lord of the rings I do not know much about, and Narnia is in the same category. Magic, scorcery, witches, and more are all wrong. If you want to know more, look online. There is proof that they are abominable. God hates that. I am not saying you are not a Christian, but I am just trying to bring this to your attention. It is easy to be blinded. It has happened to me.
Well, I just wanted to bring this to you. Have a nice day.
Danielle
Dear Danielle,
ReplyDeleteI want to thank you for bringing this to me in a heart of humility and concern. I am encouraged by your faithfulness to conviction and your sisterly manner of approach. Thank you so much for that! Many people would not risk bringing such matters to light for fear of rebuke.
I understand your concern about Narnia, Lord of The Rings, and The Passion. There is a lot of give and take when it comes to media and reading material. God calls us to be in the world and not of the world, therefore placing before our eyes what is worthless would be dishonoring to Christ's command. However, the Holy Spirit convicts certain people about things that others may not be convicted of. I would have to say that many people are not convicted (those without Christ) at all about the TV shows they watch and the things they read. I have to send grace before me, because I know that they don't know any better.
Spirit convicts people in different ways and on different levels. 1 Corinthians 2:12 seems to brush over the subject; "Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God." The Spirit reveals to us things given by God; things we should possibly move towards or away from. Just like He convicts and calls some women to wear mainly skirts and dresses. There are a lot of God fearing young woman that don't feel prompted to dress in skirts. I think skirts are feminine and modest, others may not feel that slacks are immodest. If you know what I mean :)
I recently read Romans 14 and it really brought some of these things to light for me. I was (and sadly, still am) quick to judge people. I realize that everyone is in their own walk with Christ. Some are new Christians that cannot see all that could be wrong with what they are doing, some are believers from childhood that have been convicted by the Holy Spirit to draw near or farther away from certain things. Romans 14 is also really good about explaining what an individual believes and how he/she can honor God through his/her Spirit given convictions.
My thought on The Lord of The Rings have changed since I wrote my profile, however. I don't know how edifying the whole story is, but it is a great picture of good, evil, and how good always wins. There is quite a bit of allegory in it as well.
Narnia, I have always enjoyed for the simple fact that it is so allegorical. C.S. Lewis was an amazing writer and a Christian. He would argue that he didn't try to place allegory in Narnia, but I see it at every turn.I am not saying that Narnia in and of itself is "right", but I am vouching for C.S. Lewis and his Christian motives.
I can see where The Passion may turn you off. It could seem like an abomination to portray Christ's death, and pretend to do what Christ did. For me, watching The Passion was uncomfortable for the mere fact that I can't believe what Christ must have gone through for us. I realize that it was mere acting, but it brought about the thought of what Christ suffered. The night that we watched The Passion, my brother gave his life to Christ.
Once again, I appreciate your thought in bringing this conversation to light :) There are many things that I am still working on, praying about, and pouring over in scripture, and I am not rock solid as to where I stand as far as a lot of today's media is concerned (i.e. I have a long way to go). Much of it is distasteful and dishonoring to the Lord, and I am trying desperately to seek His will for me in all aspects of my life.
God bless you Danielle!
Many thanks and blessings,
~Rachel
Hi Rachel!
DeleteI am struggling with the same things. Our family no longer watch movies(an occassional horse movie, however), to not be caught with temptations or anything like that. Yes, I am quick to judge, but I am learning. Yes, C.S Lewis 'professes' to be a Christian, but his literature isn't. Just a thought.
We will be gone for a two week trip to Alaska, so I might not be around! Enjoy the rest of the summer!
Danielle! :))))
