The question, "Are there Fallen Angels among us?" has arisen as I endeavor to read through the whole Bible. You might think it is an odd question. To be honest, I don't know what to think. All I know is what I find in Scripture...but even the Scriptures can hide their secrets.
I am going to write this for my sake and for yours. I want to see what other people think based on what the Bible has to say. I am going to be using
KJV,
ESV, and
NASB bibles. Both the KJV and NASB are study bibles. Oh, and how I would have loved to have an
ESV study bible as well for this post and further use :)
So, please if you could, whip out your Bibles and lest figure this thing out. [Please be praying that God would give you the eyes to see what God is trying to say in his Word...]
We start in Genesis....ah, let me see...Genesis 6 please :)
ESV Bible reads:
When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” 4 The Nephilim
were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of
God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them.
These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.
5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.
KJV reads: And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to
them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

NASB reads: Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” 4 The Nephilim
were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of
God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
Ok, reading from my NASB study bible I see that in verse 1, humankind is multiplying...ok so what, right? Well, read on. Verse 2, men took wives for themselves. It is implied that their lust was what drove them. "...the sons of God saw...daughters of men were beautiful..." If you think about it, "The sons of God" are not human are they? Possibly they are angels. I can't think of any other explanation. Moving on to verse 3: ..."My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years." What do you think that God is saying when he says that his Spirit shall not strive with man forever? I don't know, but could he be speaking of Angels??? Because we are flesh, it is not right for the sons of God to strive with the sons of man? This is just observation and possibility, I really don't have a solid answer to this. What do you think? The other versions say practically the same thing...
Now Verse 4 is what I have been waiting for! Hear it in ESV : The Nephilim
were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of
God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them.
These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.
KJV reads: There
were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the
sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to
them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
Who are these Mighty Men of Old? Nephilim is also another name for these peoples. Nephilim is Hebrew for "fallen ones". Could the fallen ones be the sons of god who have been thrown down from Heaven to earth?
Read Revelations 12:9; And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
Satan was once a son of God was he not? He and his angels were thrown to earth. To give you more background story read Revelation 12:7-8; 7 And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war, 8 and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven.
God threw them from Heaven and now [In Gen. they are still causing trouble] they are on earth. Got it? So, we know that there are fallen Angels in Gen times, but are they still here now?
Skip over to Numbers 13:33: There also we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”
If you know the Bible, you know that this is the spies that were sent into Canaan to search out the land for the people of Israel, by God's command. The spies were afraid because of the "Giants" in the land they did not trust that God would help them win over the land...anyways...that is not what I am trying to get at...what I am getting at is that there are Nephilim here as well! I can't tell you how may hundreds of years have passed since Gen. 6, but there are still Nephilim [fallen angels].
The BIG QUESTION in my mind is, HOW??? Let me explain: The period between Gen. 6 and Num. 13, there was a great flood, (and a gamut of other things) a flood that wiped out all of the earth and it's living creatures except those that were on Noah's Arc [read about that in Gen 6-7]. Those on the Arc were Noah, his wife, sons, and his daughters and law. No. One. Else. This means that the Nephilim were killed in the flood right? They were part of the reason that God sent the flood [eluded to in Gen. 6:2]. If the Nephilim died in the flood, how then were there Nephilim in the land of Canaan hundreds of years later? Could one of Noah's sons have had the blood of Nephilim? It seems that The Bible might have mentioned it, I don't know. Do you suppose that Satan's Angels continued to "come into" the daughters of man after the flood? I don't have the right or wrong answer, to be honest, I want to know what you think about this :) I want to know what God speaks to you through this study :)
Are there still descendants of Fallen angels today? It is a headache of a question if you ask me! :P Anyways, please let me know what you come to! Thank you so much for reading and bearing with this :)
